shannon skokos biography

Shannon Skokos, a former Miss Arkansas and motivational speaker, is an attorney, author, photographer and philanthropist residing in Dallas, Texas. After graduating magna cum laude from the University of Arkansas as a Governor’s Scholar, Shannon established a statewide youth motivational program, for which she was honored in the Arkansas State House and Senate. Shannon received her Juris Doctorate with high honors from the UALR William H. Bowen School of Law, where she served as Law Review Associate Editor.

She then practiced law for eight years in Arkansas and Colorado as a trial attorney in the area of employment and labor law, and was awarded the International Academy of Trial Lawyers Commendation for Distinguishing Achievement in the Art and Science of Advocacy. Shannon retired from the practice of law after moving to Dallas, at which point she was inspired to spend the next three years photographing and studying animals in the Kruger National Park in South Africa, and eventually published a scripturally based photographic coffee table book entitled Ask God’s Creatures: and They Will Teach You.

Shannon next traveled through Israel to photograph the location of the steps of Jesus Christ, and her work is featured in The Week that Changed the World, written by Dr. Jim Denison and Ryan Denison. Realizing the importance of giving back, Shannon and her husband founded The Ted and Shannon Skokos Foundation, which awards grants to public charities that make a positive impact on society by, among other things, advancing the arts, humanity, education, and faith.

Shannon currently spends her time working with youth teaching them the importance of a servant’s heart while expanding their vision of possibilities both for their community and themselves. She has coached basketball to young at-risk boys in South Dallas, counseled with young girls rescued from sex-trafficking in Honduras, built Habitat Homes alongside families in South Dallas, cared for orphans in Haiti, sponsored The Ted and Shannon Skokos Learning Lab at the Booker T. Washington Performing Arts Magnet School for advanced theater students, funded an infant burial program for stillborn children, volunteered her time with abused teens at Jonathan’s Place, spent her Christmas days passing out dream gifts to children at an emergency shelter, and mentored impressionable college bound teens across the country.

Shannon has extensive board and executive committee experience, including The Ted and Shannon Skokos Foundation, Baylor Health Care System Foundation, AT&T Performing Arts Center, the National Corvette Museum, Dallas Theater Center, Dallas Opera, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Texas Ballet Theater, Texas Women for the Arts Cultural Forum, North Texas Super Bowl Service Learning Adventures in North Texas “SLANT 45”, and Denison Ministries. She is also a member of the Junior League of Dallas and Park Cities Baptist Church.

When she is not volunteering her time or working on various business ventures, Shannon enjoys attending Dallas sporting events, preserving the history of classic automobiles, cooking, fostering kittens, and relaxing at home with her husband Ted and their cats.
